CANBERRA, Australia, September 27Australian Department of Social Services issued the following press release:

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has changed the lives of over 472,000 Australians for the better.

Now the government continues to work to create a simpler, faster, fairer and more cohesive NDIS that works better for people with disabilities, their families and their caregivers.

The legislative reforms proposed for NDIS include:

* Legislate the Participant Service Guarantee; and

* Implement the recommendations of the 2019 Independent Review (the Tune Review) of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (the NDIS Act)

Some of the proposed reforms require legislative changes. The government recently released a bill for public consultation, which is expected to be passed in the coming months.

How can you get involved?

The government is committed to consulting the disability sector and is seeking comments on the bill. All Australians are invited to speak.

The bill is available on the DSS Engage website for comment, with submissions ending at midnight. October 7, 2021.
