Yamaha’s Neo electric scooter is essentially the equivalent of a 50cc gas scooter.

Yamaha Motor India recently introduced a pair of electric scooters in the form of the new Neo’s and the E01 to its dealer partners. While this doesn’t necessarily guarantee the launch of any of the scooters in the country, it does hint that the company is exploring the prospects of battery-powered two-wheelers in the Indian market.

Neo’s scooter appears as a first part of Yamaha’s long-term plan to launch a long-range battery-powered two-wheeler. It will be one of the company’s first electric scooters to go into production and later introduced in select countries.

The Neo’s is an EV equivalent of the ICE-powered 50cc scooter that sells in international markets under the same name. It has a hub motor whose power is about 2 kW. Like the recently introduced Bounce Infinity E1, it has an interchangeable battery and is based on the E02 concept which was shown at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Yamaha has also signed a deal with several other two-wheeler giants such as KTM, Piaggio and Honda, and it could also be working on setting up its own battery swapping infrastructure, but details are unconfirmed for now. the moment.

Neo’s electric scooter is expected to hit dealerships in select countries this summer. However, the chances of launching it in the Indian market are slim.

That said, the other scooter presented to dealers is the E01 with performance levels equivalent to an ICE-powered 125cc scooter.
