An independent concession expert is gaining momentum with his new consultancy firm launched earlier this year.

SmartGroups, which was launched earlier this year by dealer educator Justin Osburn, already has several groups in place for small stores and for the largest independent dealers in the country.

The latest group, known as Poseidon, will hold its first meeting October 5-7 at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort and Spa Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, SC There are still spaces available in the group, which is designed for dealers who sell between 80 and 200 retail units per month.

An Army veteran, Osburn is a certified sales trainer and describes himself as a “student of the automotive industry” with extensive experience as the owner of three independent dealerships as well as a sales professional, manager F&I and Managing Director.

Osburn previously served as Retail 20 Groups moderator and consultant for the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association and was the lead instructor for NIADA’s Certified Master Dealer course.

“SmartGroups are 20 groups reinvented, with a smarter schedule, smarter speakers and smarter technology,” Osburn said in a press release. “Like our other SmartGroups, Poseidon explodes. We had nine dealer engagements for the band within 24 hours of its launch on our website.

SmartGroups Director Howard Bullock said the “huge growth of the program in a very short period of time has been nothing short of phenomenal”.

SmartGroups are 20 groups designed to have a smarter schedule, smarter speakers and smarter technology, including LinUs – patent-pending software that is fully integrated with most dealership management systems for most accurate financial comparisons.

“In fact, we’re already the 20th largest host in independent retail,” Bullock said. “It’s the result of our high level of dealer knowledge, cutting-edge technology and a whole new way of running 20 groups, as well as our desire to really listen to our group members.”
